Pictures from Trevithick 200 Rally in 2008 - A history lesson...

 

 

George Stevenson was attributed with building the first passenger hauling steam locomotive, which he did in 1829.

Well...Richard Trevithick put this vehicle on the road a full 28 years before... The painting???

 

 

 

 

...the real thing as seen in 2008. Officially known as the Cambourne locomotive, it is now lovingly known as the 'Puffing Devil'

 

 

Then in 1802, came this extraordinary vehicle - yes it is steam driven...and it goes.

The 8 foot diameter wheels were meant to smooth out the terminally poor roads in the country, not induce vertigo

 

 

 

Ahhh...rails at last with the Coalbrookdale locomotive in 1803, alas not for passenger carrying though...

 

We were there too and this was Hugh Beacon driving the inaugral train carrying the Mayor of Bridgnorth and his daughter.

The picture below is Catch Me Who Can as she was at the time of the 2008 rally. In 1808, the orginal engine hauled the first passenger carrying train...period...
